UARS Reference Atmosphere Project (URAP) Wind and Temperature Data

Wind Data

Richard Swinbank from the UK Meteorological Office (UKMO) provided the URAP wind data. The data set contains monthly zonal-mean zonal winds from the surface to the upper mesosphere. Wind measurements from the High Resolution Doppler Imager (HRDI) were combined with results from UKMO’s stratospheric data assimilation system. Balanced winds derived from the URAP temperature data set were used to bridge the gap between stratospheric winds and HRDI mesospheric winds. The data are available on the ftp server at /sparc/ref_clim/urap/wind. Refer to the README file for further details.

Temperature Data

URAP temperature data were assembled at NCAR by John Gille and Larry Lyjak, and were provided by Bill Randel. The data are available on the ftp server at /sparc/ref_clim/urap/temp. Refer to the README file for further details.

More information about the UARS Reference Atmosphere Project can be found at the URAP home page.
